Our first Sowams Family Math and Science Nights of the year “How My Body Works” was a big hit! Second and Third graders had tons of fun enthusiastically testing their senses, making fingerprints and causing a model of lungs to expand and contract. They also learned all about how their heart works, listened to their own blood rushing through their bodies with a real Doppler, and got a great overview of the digestive system. In addition there were some strikingly unusual x-rays and lots of exclamations over seeing their own fingers, hair and eyes through a computer microscope.
Please come join us for our next series on “Nature in My Backyard” for first graders and kindergartners in May (dates TBA). Volcanoes will be erupting and bugs hopping in this evening stressing “Hands On” science at its best. Kids will uncover dinosaur bones from a sand pit, make their own “fossils” and examine rocks and minerals with magnifiers. We’ll also have a touch tank with live plants and animals found in Barrington ’s rivers and bays, terrariums filled with backyard bugs and an interactive food web and pollution game. Our goal is to show kids how much fun science can be!
