April 11, 2018 Backpack Express

4/11/2018

Upcoming Events:
  • Vacation:  Next week is our school vacation week.  Enjoy the week.
  • Hearing Screening:  On May 3 is our scheduled date.  Hearing is important to your child's ability to learn and to progress satisfactorily at school. The State of Rhode Island Audiology Center- Rhode Island School for the Deaf, will be conducting hearing screenings for grades K - 3rd as mandated by the Rules and Regulations for School Health Programs.  If your child has had ear pain within the last month, drainage from the ears, has had surgical tubes placed in the ears in the past 6-8 weeks or under the care of an ENT doctor, complete the attached form.  ONLY complete the form if above conditions are present and return to the nurse.  The form is attached below.
  • Sweetheart Dance:  Our PTO Sweetheart Dance is scheduled for April 26.  Tickets are now on sale.  Tickets are on sale until Monday, April 23.  No tickets will be sold after this date.  Once we know how many families are coming, a location of the dance will be determined.  Tickets need to be purchased for the child and the person attending with the child.  Volunteers are needed for assistance on the night of the dance and for the donation of food and drink.  All of the information is attached below.
  • Parent Teacher Conferences:  Conferences for most parents will take place on April 27.  Teachers will communicate with you about schedules for that day.  There is no school for children on that day; there will be child care from 8:00-3:00 for conferences.
  • PTO Meeting:  The next PTO meeting is scheduled for May 7 at 7:00 pm.  At this meeting, there will be a discussion about school safety led by Superintendent Michael Messore, Chief John LaCross, and School Resource Office Josh Melo.

Other Bits of Information:
  • Yearbook Pictures:  Some parents take pictures at the various school events that we hold.  The two parents who are putting the yearbook together would love your pictures.  If you are will to share your pictures for possible use in the yearbook, please click here to upload your pictures.  Questions about this can be sent to either Jeff Drury at me@jeffdrury.com or Josh Brown at dustyproduce@gmail.com.
  • Lunch:  We have many parents who come to have lunch with their child.  We welcome this on any day of the week.  With that said, you should only bring food for your own child.  You should not be providing any food to any other child.  Children may have allergies that you may not know they have.  Our policy is students only eat food brought from their home or purchased through the hot lunch program.
  • Volunteers:  We are looking for some volunteers to assist with our Enrichment Clusters.  The objective of Enrichment clusters is to provide student driven choice and voice in order to develop a service or product.  Sample clusters include iPad Photography, Ukulele, Gardening, Crafts for Animals Shelters, Jewelry Making, and 13 others.  The clusters meet on six Tuesday afternoons (April 24, May 8, 15, 29, June 5, 12) and share out during the last week of school in the morning.  Volunteers may be asked to assist with selling our products to our students during the school day.  All funds raised through our Enrichment Clusters will be donated to the Tomorrow Fund.  If you are interested in volunteering and have a current BCI on file with the school department, please email Mr. Callahan at callahanj@barringtonschools.org.
  • School Calendar:  The school calendar for the 2018-2019 school year has been approved by the School Committee and is now available.  The students’ first day of school is August 29, 2018.  The calendar is attached below.  Please note:  Wednesday, September 12, 2018, is a professional development day because it is also primary/election day in Rhode Island.  We are not allowed to have school on election days when schools will be used for voting.
  •   Community Notices:  There is on community notice from the Barrington Public Library attached below.  And, the district has a site with all of the Barrington community information on it.  This a great way to see what is happening in Town.  You can access that site here.
