Other Bits of Information
Remind Texts: Many of you have signed up to receive texts from me using Remind. We do not pay to use Remind for our texts. Remind contacted us because they are making a change due to their cost increases. This only impacts those of you using Verizon Wireless as your phone carrier. Verizon is going to charge Remind more money in order to accept Remind texts and send them to you. Remind estimates it will cost them more than $1 million dollars each year. Therefore, they are stopping their relationship with Verizon. What does that mean for you? Effective January 28, 2019, Verizon Wireless customers will no longer receive text messages from me. However, there is a simple way to remedy this situation. You can download the mobile app to your phone and receive messages that way. The mobile app is free of charge. With the app, you would need to enable the notifications so you will know when a text is sent.
Free/Reduced Lunch: It’s never too late to apply for free/reduced lunch. There are times throughout the year that family situations change and families may need this benefit. Information about applying for free/reduced lunch may be found here.
Calling Child Out Late or Absent: Please make sure you call the school when your child is going to be late or absent. Someone is in the office each morning at 7:30.
Dismissal Changes: Whenever your child is not going home their normal way, you need to send a note to school with your child indicating this change.
Morning Drop Off: Thank you to everyone who consistently follows our morning drop off routine. Just a couple reminders: 1. The person dropping off your child needs to stay in the car. If your child needs assistance to get out of the car on the passenger side, please park your car. 2. You may drop your child off where there is a sidewalk. You do not have to drop your child off at the front door. They are able to walk on the sidewalk to the school’s front door.
Flu Information: With all that has been happening with sick children, I thought this flu and germ information sheet from the National Association of Elementary School Principal provided some good reminders about keeping everyone healthy. You may access it here.
Chess: The next session of the PTO’s morning chess program starts on January 16. The registration form can be found here. Please print the form and send it back to school with your payments.
Hour of Code: Mrs. Greene and Mrs. Sanchez will be offering a family Hour of Code on January 17 right after school. The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. More information is attached here. To register to attend this fun event, please click here.
Town Meeting: Mrs. Felag’s class is hosting the next Town Meeting on Tuesday, January 15 at 1:55 in the afternoon.
No School: There is no school on January 21, 2019. This is in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
February No School: In case you have not seen the most up-to-date school calendar, there was a change made to it in September. There is school on February 4, 2019. However, there is no school on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, due to a special election in town. You can see the school calendar here.
Kindergarten Registration: Schools in Barrington will be registering students entering kindergarten for the 2019-2020 school year during the week of February 11 from 9:00-2:00 each day. Children are eligible to register for kindergarten if the child will be five years old as of September 1, 2019. Each of the K-3 Barrington schools will be accepting registrations for those children who live in the school’s designated neighborhood. If you are not sure what you need to bring with you for registration, click here for registration information. (We will have packets at the school with all of the forms printed for you to fill out.)
