National Education Week: This week long event occurs the week of November 12, 2018. We have a few things happening at our school during the week.
Parent Visits: Each grade level is inviting their parents to visit their classrooms. This is an opportunity for parents to see their child in school and to see what happens in the classroom. Kindergarten visit is November 14 at 9:00 while grade 1 is the same day at 11:15. Grades 2 and 3 have their visits scheduled for November 15 with second grade inviting parents to visit at 1:45 and third grade is at 11:15. Information is attached below.
Book Fair: Our Book Fair will be opened Tuesday-Friday of this week. Information will be sent home about when your child’s class will visit the book fair. Also, save the date for family night, which will be November 14 from 5:00-7:00. Information about this will be coming out soon as well.
Grade 1 Family Book Club: November 8, right after school, our first grade families are welcome to join Mrs. Greene and Mrs. Sanchez for a book club. There are two possible books to read: Last Stop on Market Street or A Different Pond. To sign up to attend, click here. Information is attached below.
PTO Play: Registration is still open for students in grades 1-3 that wish to participate in the PTO play of The Jungle Book. Performances take place in March with auditions (everyone makes it) will be in November with rehearsals starting in December. Registration and information can be found here or attached below.
Flu Shot Clinic: Sowams is hosting an upcoming flu shot clinic on November 7 from 4:00-6:30. There is scheduled to be both the shot and nasal mist. There is no charge but insurance cards should be brought with you.
Some upcoming important dates to know: There are some important dates in November that you need to know about including the following:
No School Days: There is no school on November 6, 12, 22, and 23.
Picture Retake Day: The photographer is coming back for those students who were absent on the original day or for those who want retakes. The date for this is November 16 beginning at 8:30.
Town Meeting: Mrs. Gaynor’s class will host on November 20 at 1:55.
Other Bits of Information:
Tap In Food Drive: Each year at this time of year, Sowams School collects food in order to help local families during the Thanksgiving holiday. All food collected is donated to Barrington’s Tap In. We are asking that families donate items, based upon what is listed on the information sheet below. Donated food items can be placed in the box in the school’s foyer.
November Lunch Menu: The hot lunch menu for November is attached below. It is never too late to apply for free/reduced lunch if this is needed. The application for this and other information about the lunch program can be found here.
Community Notices: Attached below are two community notices from Barrington High School. One is from the boys’ hockey team and their collection of used sporting equipment and the upcoming sale of this equipment. (There is a drop off box for the equipment in our school’s foyer.)
