Upcoming Events

  • Open House:  Our annual Open House is scheduled for the evening of September 24, 2019.  Kindergarten and grade one parents will visit classrooms from 7:15-8:15. Parents of students in grades two and three will visit classrooms from 6:00-7:00.  More information may be found here.

  • Volunteer Background Checks:  Any new family or anyone whose background check was done more than two years ago needs to have a background check completed before volunteering at our school.  For your convenience, our Volunteer Coordinator has drop-in sessions at each of the schools during the rest of this week. Sowams will have another drop-in session on Thursday morning from 8:15-9:15.  The cost is $5 and the check should be made out to “BCI.” Other locations may be found here.

  • New Volunteer Orientation:  All new volunteers are expected to participate in a brief orientation program with our Volunteer Coordinator.  These will occur at all of the district schools. Sowams will be hosting an orientation on Wednesday, October 2 at 9:00 in the morning.  Click here to see the other dates.  You may choose the session that works best for you.

Other Bits of Information

  • School Hours:  Students are in school each day from 7:55-2:30.  It is important for your child to get to school on time each day.  You should aim to have your child in the cafeteria by 7:50, which is when we start our community meeting each morning.

  • Morning Drop-Off:  I have been outside during morning drop-off each day this year.  It seems to be going smoothly. Thank you for following my directions when you are dropping your child off in the morning.  Please remember, children need to be ready to get out of the car on the passenger side. Also, your child may exit the car anyplace there is a sidewalk.

  • Afternoon Pick-Up:  This, too, is going smoothly.  Students being picked up by parents or other adults are being dismissed once the buses have departed.  This is usually around 2:33 each day. Thank you for your patience with this.

  • Commissioner of Education:  The Rhode Island Commissioner of Education has asked that we share a letter from her.  You may find that letter here.

  • Community Notices:  From time to time, there will be community notices shared with you in our Backpack Express.  Today, there are two notices. The first is from the Girl Scouts (click here) and the other is from the Cub Scouts (click here).
