superintendent update october 3

Good afternoon,

Last week we officially completed the first month of the 2023-2024 school year. September has been an exciting and busy month in our schools.  It is inspiring to see the collaboration, teamwork, dedication, and innovation that happens every day inside each of our schools. As we transition into October this week, I would like to highlight some of our learning community’s September accomplishments and share what is on the horizon next month.

This month’s District highlights demonstrate our educators’ commitment to creating positive and enriching learning environments and our student's dedication to their learning:

  • Ms. Perreira's 2022-2023 first-grade class at Nayatt School was featured in a NASA Education Downlink event on September 14 and had their questions about space answered live by astronauts on the International Space Station. Watch the video here.

  • High-Fives for Heroes honored the anniversary of September 11 and the sacrifice of first responders District-wide. Our students and staff thanked Barrington’s first responders for their service to our town with notes of appreciation and encouragement. See the photos here.

  • Sowams School students and families donated more than 70 pounds of fresh-picked apples from Rocky Brook Orchard to TapIn to contribute to community wellness and help address food insecurity in the East Bay. Learn more about this donation

  • Barrington Middle School and Hampden Meadows School extended kindness and inclusion by participating in Start With Hello Week, an initiative by the Sandy Hook Promise. Check out these photos from the week.

  • Barrington Middle School Best Buddies was recently named National Middle School Chapter of the Year Best Buddies International for students’ commitment to fostering friendship, belonging, and inclusion in middle school. See students receive the award here.

  • Barrington Public Schools was named the #1 Best School District in Rhode Island by Niche, placing our District within the top 3.5% of Niche’s Best Schools in America rankings. Read more about this ranking.

Barrington School Building Project

Thank you for your continued support of Barrington Public Schools and, as we collectively think about the future of our District schools, I encourage you to attend an upcoming community conversation in October to learn more about and share feedback on the proposed Barrington School Building Project. These sessions will take place on Thursday, October 5 (6 PM), Saturday, October 21 (9 AM), and Wednesday, October 25 (6 PM) at Barrington Middle School. Visit the project’s website for more information

I am looking forward to another successful school year and seeing what our students and staff will accomplish over the next 9 months. Our District’s growth and achievement rely on the involvement, support, and feedback of our extended Barrington community. Strong partnerships between our schools and our community enable us to provide our students with knowledge, skills, and experiences that help them to become responsible and engaged global citizens.

It is through everyone's collaboration that every student is empowered to excel.
