Backpack Express

Good afternoon,

This week’s Backpack Express is ready for you:

  • Yearbook Boosters:  Do you want to put a message to your child and/or faculty/staff member in the yearbook?  If so, you will want to purchase a Booster for the yearbook.  Information on boosters may be found here.  Boosters will be accepted until April 6, 2023.

  • Yearbook:  The Sowams School Yearbook is now on sale.  Orders are taken online only.  Information about ordering a yearbook may be found here.  Orders will be accepted until April 24, 2023.  This year’s yearbook costs $21.

  • Volunteer Appreciation Week:  We are so lucky to have so many wonderful volunteers at Sowams School.  We have parents who come into our classrooms and help our students.  We also have volunteers who can’t come in during the school day but do other things at home to help out school and students.  You are very much appreciated and you will be celebrated during the week of April 17, 2023.  All volunteers are invited to a breakfast on April 20, 2023.  Information about the breakfast may be found here.

  • No School:  As a reminder, April vacation starts on Friday, April 7, 2023.  We will come back to school on Monday, April 17, 2023.  Also, in honor of Eid al-Fitr, there is no school on Friday, June 21, 2023.

  • April Celebrations:  Our district has put together information related to various celebrations which occur during the month of April.  You may access this information here.

  • Save the Date:  The PTO’s Sweetheart Dance is coming up.  Spend a fun filled evening with your sweetheart on Friday, April 28 from 6-8 pm. Music, pizza, refreshments, and a special photo will all be included in your evening.  $10 per child and one adult.  The dance takes place at the Barrington Middle School.  More details to follow.!

  • RICAS State Assessment:  A reminder to 3rd grade families, on April 18 and 19, we will be having our state assessment taking place.  On these two days, students will take the ELA portion of the assessment.  We will start the assessment at 8:30.  It’s important that your child arrives at school on time and ready to take the assessment.

While we are on vacation, Easter and Passover will occur.  For those of you who celebrate, I hope you have a happy holiday.  I hope everyone has a wonderful vacation week.

Best,

Jim Callahan
