Backpack Express

Good morning,

This week’s Backpack Express is ready for you.  Enjoy reading it.  Sorry for the length; there’s a lot to know.

  • Family Math Night:  On December 5, 2023, join us for a Family Math Night from 5:30-7:00.  Come learn various games you can play with your child with just a deck of cards (supplied by us).  This is a come and go night–stay for 15 minutes or stay for an hour. To help us know how many families are coming, please complete this sign up by December 1, 2023.  This is a night for you and your family for some math fun.

  • December Holidays and Celebrations:  Here is the link for December's calendar DEIB December 2023.  There is information about the various celebrations and holidays celebrated during this time of year.

  • Hot Lunch:  The December hot lunch menu may be found here.  It is never too late to apply for free or reduced lunch.  Information about this may be found here.

  • Parent Conferences:  Parent conferences are coming on December 8, 2023.  Teachers will be sending out information about signing up for a conference.  Students in PreK-5 do not come to school on this day.  Students in grades 6-12 have a regular school day.

  • Panorama Parent Survey:  Be on the lookout for an upcoming survey from our school and district.  The survey is an opportunity for you to provide feedback about our school and our school community.  The survey will be available December 4-15, 2023.  More information will be sent out.

  • Barrington Middle School Lego Raffle:  Barrington Middle School's Unified Theater is hosting a Lego Basket Raffle to help raise funds for its Unified Theater Program.  Both Lego baskets are valued at over $125.00 each! Raffle tickets will be sent home with all students. If you choose to participate, raffle tickets are 3 for $5.00. Cash or Check made payable to Barrington Middle School will be accepted. Tickets can be returned to the school office in the attached envelope by December 18, 2023. The baskets are pictured here. The raffle will take place on December 20,2023 on the BMS Morning Show. Good luck and happy building! Tickets were sent home Monday with your child.

  • Sweatpants:  If you have any gently used and clean sweatpants that your child is no longer wearing and you would like to donate them to our nurse’s office, please feel free to send them in.  We are always in need when students have various types of accidents.

  • Attendance:  As we come to the end of the first trimester, we examine attendance records for those students absent or tardy 10% or more of the school year. Most of the students receiving the notice about absences are due to family vacations occurring during the school day.  It is important that children be in school unless the child is sick or has a family emergency (i.e. funeral).  Please refer to the handbook to see what types of absences are considered excused or unexcused per the state of Rhode Island.  If your child is late, please make it a goal that they are here to school prior to 7:55 in the morning.

  • PTO December Calendar:  The PTO has put together a calendar of events happening during December.  You may access it here.

  • PTO Meeting:  There will not be a PTO meeting this month.

  • Save the Date:  The PTO will be sponsoring a Lantern Walk on December 20 from 6:00-7:00 PM.  More information will follow.

  • Community Notice:  There is a notice from the Barrington Middle School Robotics Team regarding a fundraiser.

Have a great night.

Best,

Jim Callahan
