Backpack Express - 5/9/24

Good afternoon,

This week’s Backpack Express is ready for your reading pleasure:

  • Third Grade:  A reminder that PTO is collecting photos for the 3rd graders in order to prepare a video presentation at the reception. Ideally, we'd like to have one baby or toddler photo for each student (you are more than welcome to submit both!). In addition, the theme of this year's reception is the Olympics. The core values of the Olympics are excellence, respect and friendship. If you have any photos of SOWAMS 3rd graders playing sports, showing respect and friendship, please share with us so that we can incorporate them into the video. Photo submissions are due next Friday 5/17 via google form  here.

  • PTO/Arts Alive Play:  If you are interested in purchasing a t-shirt for the play, they are on sale now.  The cost of the t-shirt is $15.00.  You may order the t-shirt here.

  • Sweetheart Dance:

    • The Dance is scheduled for May 17, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 at the Barrington Middle School.  It’s not too late to sign up.  For more information, click here.

    • Payment is accepted via PayPal (@SowamsRIPTO) or by sending cash/check to the school.  Also, if you have already signed up for the dance but have not paid, please do so.

    • The Kona Ice truck is going to be at the Dance.  If you would like to preorder to get your order faster, you can do that.  When you preorder, you will receive a token when you sign into the dance that you would use to receive your Kona Ice.  Preorder instructions may be found here.

  • Lost and Found:  We have various winter jackets in our lost and found.  If your child has lost their jacket, you may want to remind them to check the lost and found.  Prior to the end of the school year, we will put the lost and found out front during morning drop off and out back during dismissal.

  • RICAS Testing:  Third grade students will be taking the math state assessment on Monday and Tuesday.  Testing will start at 8:30 in the morning so it’s important for your child to be on time to school.  If testing has started and your child is late, they will have to wait in the office until their class is done and then make up the assessment on a different day.  If your child is absent, they will need to make up the assessment as well.

On behalf of all of us at Sowams, I want to thank all of our families for all the love you have given us this week.  It has been greatly appreciated.  Thank you also to the volunteers who came in yesterday for lunch and recess duties so our entire faculty and staff could enjoy a very delcious lunch together.

Enjoy the day.

Best,

Jim Callahan
