I know, yesterday was Wednesday; so I am a day late with this week’s Backpack Express. But, here it is for your reading pleasure:
Book Fair: The Book Fair continues tonight with our Family Night from 5:00-7:00. The new Dog Man book will be available (limited number of copies). You can refer to the email that was sent out earlier to families for more information.
Thanksgiving Food Collection: Sowams School will be collecting food to donate to Barrington’s Tapin. The collected food will be used to assist local families during the holidays and during the government shutdown. Information may be found here. There is a box set up in our school’s foyer for the donations. We are accepting donations through Monday.
School Construction Update: At our December 1, 2025, PTO meeting, Chris Spiegel, project manager, will be discussing the construction projects at Sowams School and across Barrington. The meeting, which is virtual, will take place at 7:00 PM. The link to this meeting will be sent out on the day of the meeting.
School Photos: Pictures will be sent home today with your child if you ordered any for your child. (Class pictures will be sent home at a later date.) Picture retake day will be on December 3, 2025. Anyone who was absent on the original picture day and anyone who sends pictures back to school with your child will have a picture taken/retaken. If you did not order previously or if you need to order now, you may go to coffeepond.com to do this.
Lost and Found: We already have coats in our lost and found. Please remind your child to check the lost and found if they are missing something. If you put your child’s name on coats, sweatshirts, and water bottles, it’s much easier to get the lost item back to its owner.
Candy Collected: Thank you to everyone who donated candy to our candy collection for Amos House, Tap In, and veterans organizations. Along with some other schools in Barrington, over 500 bags of candy were donated.
Flu Shot Clinic: There is another flu shot clinic on November 19, 2025, from 4:00-7:00. This one will take place at Barrington Middle School. Sign up information may be found here.
Parent Teacher Conferences: As the first trimester is coming to a close, we will have parent conferences on December 8, 2025. Watch for sign up information from your child’s teacher. This is also a no school day for students.
Progress Reports: Progress reports will also be completed at the end of the trimester. These will be published in Aspen on December 15, 2025. You will receive an email when they are available. In order to access the progress report for your child, you will need to know your Aspen username and password. If you do not have that information, you will need to email aspenhelp@barringtonschools.org. We do not have access to this information at our school.
