I’m a day late with this week’s Backpack Express but it’s finally ready for your reading pleasure. Let’s hope in the New Year that it doesn’t happen too often (but we all know that it will happen again).
School Construction Community Forum: On January 12, 2026, at 6:00 in the evening, there will be a community forum regarding the upcoming construction project at Sowams. This is an in-person meeting at our school. Information may be found here.
Family Math Night: Save the date for our upcoming Family Math Night on January 28, 2026 from 5:30-7:00 in the evening. More information will be sent out.
Book Drive: A former Sowams student is working on her Senior Project and one component of the Project is a book collection drive. She is collecting gently used children’s books. There is a box in the school foyer for any donations that you would like to give. Information may be found here.
PTO Calendar: The PTO has created a January calendar which may be found here.
PTO P-Bruins Game: The PTO will be at an upcoming Providence Bruins game. On this Sunday, January 11, 2026, you can join your Sowams friends for an afternoon of hockey. When you purchase your tickets, they will all be within the same area. The link to purchase tickets may be found here.
Grades 2 and 3 PTO/Arts Alive Play: Registration opens in January about the second and third grade play program. This year, the play will be Finding Nemo, Jr. Information about audition and rehearsal dates, performance date and times, and registration may be found here. Please note: On the Arts Alive website, it says you can pay by Venmo. The Venmo account is not active but you can use PayPal to pay for this program (@SowamsRIPTO). Also, if you need to request a scholarship for this program, please reach out to me.
Sowams Yearbook: It's time to order a yearbook to look back on all the memories your child has made and will make this year! Sports Day: On January 16, 2026, we have our Fun Friday, which is Sports Day. This is a day where everyone can wear their favorite sports teams paraphernalia.
January No School Day: There is no school on Monday, January 19, 2026, in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Community Notices: There are two notices this week for you: Barrington Little League registration and RISD MLK Jr. concert.
