Backpack Express

Good afternoon,

This week’s Backpack Express is ready for you.  Happy Reading!

  • Kindergarten Registration:  Do you have a child turning five years old as of September 1, 2026?  Do you have a Barrington neighbor who has a child turning five as of September 1, 2026?  If so, it’s time to register the child for kindergarten.  Registration opens Monday for students entering in the next school year.  Information on registering a student may be found here.  Registrations are completed online.  Feel free to reach out with questions.

  • Hot Lunch:  The February hot lunch menu may be found here.

  • Town Meeting:  We have a Town Meeting on Monday afternoon.  Mrs. Gleason’s class is hosting it.  (This is the one that was scheduled for our snow day on Monday.)  Other classes will present during our Meeting.  If your child’s class is presenting, your child’s teacher will let you know.  If you are picking your child up after Town Meeting, they will be dismissed at the end of the day.  If you do not normally pick your child up from school, you MUST send a note indicating you are doing this.  If we do not receive a note, your child will go home their normal way.  It is too busy for any last second changes.

  • PTO at PC Women’s Basketball:  The PTO is sponsoring an afternoon at a Providence College Women’s basketball game.  It is happening on Sunday, February 8, 2026.  Information on purchasing tickets may be found here.

  • Book Drive:  A former Sowams student is working on her Senior Project and one component of the Project is a book collection drive.  She is collecting gently used children’s books.  There is a box in the school foyer for any donations that you would like to give.  Information may be found here.

  • Movie Screenagers:  The Nayatt PTO is hosting a viewing of the movie Screenagers this Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 6:00 PM at the Barrington Public Library.  Our interim superintendent, Robert Mitchell, has seen it and says, “ It's a must see for parents.  It's an opportunity for parents to learn how screen time is impacting our children."  Click here to register.  More information may be found here.

  • February Holidays and Celebrations:  The district’s DEIB Committee has created a slideshow of all of the different holidays/celebrations during the month of February.  You may access it here.

Have a great day.

Best,

Jim Callahan

Principal
