Backpack Express

Good afternoon,

This week’s Backpack Express is ready for you.  Hope you enjoy reading it.

  • School Improvement Team Parent Survey:  Our School Improvement Team has put together a brief survey for parents to take.  It should only take a few minutes to complete and we appreciate your time and feedback in completing this survey.  The survey will be available until February 13, 2026.  You may access the brief survey here.

  • Kindergarten Registration:  Do you have a child turning five years old as of September 1, 2026?  Do you have a Barrington neighbor who has a child turning five as of September 1, 2026?  If so, it’s time to register the child for kindergarten.  Registration opens Monday for students entering in the next school year.  Information on registering a student may be found here.  Registrations are completed online.  If your child is in the Primrose Hill preschool, you do have to reregister in Aspen for kindergarten. Feel free to reach out with questions.

  • Town Meeting:  We have a Town Meeting on Monday afternoon.  Mrs. Tutt’s class is hosting it.  Other classes will present during our Meeting.  If your child’s class is presenting, your child’s teacher will let you know.  If you are picking your child up after Town Meeting, they will be dismissed at the end of the day.  If you do not normally pick your child up from school, you MUST send a note indicating you are doing this.  If we do not receive a note, your child will go home their normal way.  It is too busy for any last second changes.

  • PTO at PC Women’s Basketball:  The PTO is sponsoring an afternoon at a Providence College Women’s basketball game.  It is happening on Sunday, February 8, 2026.  Information on purchasing tickets may be found here.

  • Handicapped Parking Spots:  The designated handicap parking spots should only be used by those who have a handicap plate or window sign.  Parents should not be using those spots in the morning or afternoon to drop off or pick up their child(ren) unless they have the proper credentials for this.

  • PTO Calendar:  The PTO’s February calendar is ready and may be found here.

  • Friendship Day:  Friendship Day will be celebrated on Friday, February 13, 2026.  We hope to see the school filled with pink, red, and lots of hearts.

  • PTO/Arts Alive 2nd and 3rd Grade Play:  Play rehearsals will be starting soon for our Sowams thespians!  Auditions will be next Wednesday, February,11, with rehearsals running through April 29, excluding February & April vacation.  The audition and rehearsals will run from dismissal to 4:30.  We do need volunteers to assist at rehearsals each week.  Volunteers, who must have a background check on file with our district, would help with taking attendance, watching students as they head to bathrooms, assisting with student management, and signing students out to parents/guardians/adults at the end of the rehearsal.  We need at least one parent per week.  Sign up to volunteer here!   If you are interested in volunteering but still need to complete your background check, you can start the process Here!  Background checks are good for two years and you will be able to volunteer at all of the Barrington Schools.

  • February No School:  Just a reminder (assuming your child is not counting down the days), school vacation week is the week of February 16, 2026.

  • Community Notices:  There are several notices this week from our community:  Creative Wanderings, Eagles Wrestling Clinic, and Thrive Outside.

Have a great day.

Best,

Jim Callahan
