Backpack Express

Good morning,

Here’s this week’s Backpack Express.  There is a lot of information in it for you.

  • Kindergarten Registration:   Do you have a child turning five on or before September 1, 2022?  Do you have Barrington friends who have a child turning five on or before September 1, 2022?  If so, these children are eligible for kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year.  (These students will be considered the class of 2035.)  We will start kindergarten registration on February 1, 2022.  It will be online registration.  All of the paperwork will be completed online and you will need to upload certain documents.  Documents you will need include your child’s birth certificate or passport, immunization records, and proof of residency (for example:  two utility bills or recorded deed or rental/lease agreement). Information related to registration may be found here.  If you are registering a child for kindergarten, you will need to know your Aspen username and password.  If you do not have this information, please email x2help@barringtonschools.org.
  • Lunch Menu:  The February lunch menu may be found here.
  • Community Visioning Meeting:  Last week, our Superintendent send an email to families inviting you to a virtual Facilities Visioning Session on Monday, January 31, 2022 from 5:30-7:30.  The purpose of this meeting is to get feedback from the Barrington community on the future of our district’s facilities.  To see the whole email from the Superintendent, please click here.  To participate in the meeting, the Zoom link may be found in the email or here.
  • Fun Friday:  Our next Fun Friday is February 4, 2022.  The focus will be on the Lunar New Year.  More information will be sent home.
  • February Celebrations:  February sees the celebration of the Lunar New Year and Black History/Heritage.  If your family is interested in the Lunar New Year, The Met hosts a virtual celebration of Lunar New Year that you and your child(ren) may enjoy on February 5. To see what is offered, click here.  If you are interested in Black History/Heritage, the Smithsonian is hosting many free virtual events that you may participate in. There are registration caps, so it is essential to sign up early if you are interested.  Click here for information.
  • Morning Drop Off:  In order to ensure traffic does not back up on Sowams Rd., please remember your child should get out of the vehicle anywhere there is a sidewalk in front of the school.  You do not need to drop your child off directly in front of the door of the school.  By not following this, traffic backs up on Sowams Rd. and it makes it difficult for vehicles to exit our parking lot.
  • Afternoon Pick Up:  I know traffic is heavy in the afternoon with so many students being picked up.  As a reminder, if you are parking on neighboring streets, please park on one side of the street and do not block driveways.  Also, please make sure you and your child are aware of your surroundings as you walk to and from your vehicle.  We want to make sure everyone remains safe.
  • Community Notice:  There is a community notice from Girls Scouts that is for kindergarten and first grade students.

Have a great rest of your day.  Be safe this weekend.

Best,

Jim Callahan
Principal
