Backpack Express

Good afternoon,

I hope everyone is back in the swing of things as I know it can be hard after a week off from school.  Here’s this week’s Backpack Express information for you.

  • PTO Meeting:  The PTO meeting scheduled for Monday, March 7, 2022, has been canceled.
  • Facilities Planning Meetings:  We are pleased to announce that we will be moving forward with several engagement and information sessions that will allow individuals to learn about the strengths, challenges, opportunities, and goals for the District-wide Long-term Master Plan. The following meeting will provide a deeper dive into the available data and provide opportunities for the Community to ask questions and share their thoughts.  The next meeting is Monday, March 7, 2022, from 7-8 pm:  Manuel Cordero, our Community Engagement and Programming Consultant, will provide insight into the RIDE process, which drives the Master Plan activities.  The Master Plan Team is developing other opportunities for discussion. Please email kotsirisc@barringtonschools.org for the zoom link.
  • Lost and Found:  We have a lot of items on our Lost and Found.  On Monday and Tuesday of next week, we will have our Lost and Found outside at drop off and pick up.  At drop off, the items will be in front of the school.  You will need to park and come to the Lost and Found.  (Do not get out of your car in the drop off circle.)  At pick up in the afternoon, we will have it out back for you to gather your child’s belongings.
  • Survey Works:  Sowams and the Rhode Island Department of Education value feedback, which is why RIDE has created a yearly survey for parents to provide feedback on our school.  This parent survey, which is open through the end of this month, asks questions about school safety, school climate, family engagement, and family support.  This anonymous survey may be found at bit.ly/ridefamily.
  • Third Grade Survey:  Our third grade students will also be taking this RIDE sponsored survey at school.  This will take place over the next couple weeks.  Parents who would like to view this survey prior to your child taking it may see the questions here.
  • PE Kids Heart Challenge:  For the past several years, our Physical Education teachers have been working with the American Heart Association to assist them in raising funds.  We will continue this partnership this year.  During the week of March 21, students will be participating in various activities during their PE class.  Donations may be made online to support this cause.  Information may be found here.  Based upon how much a child opts to raise, the American Heart Association does provide prizes for students, which may be found here.
  • Nayatt 5K:  Nayatt School’s annual fundraiser is coming up on April 9, 2022–the Nayatt 5K.  Information may be found here about this fun, family event.
  • Community Notices:  There are several notices from our Barrington community for you:  Barrington Pop Warner, Barrington High School After Prom restaurant fundraiserBarrington Farm School Pollinator Project, and DEI Themed Arts Showcase.

Have a wonderful night.

Best,

Jim Callahan
