Backpack Express

Good morning,

There is a lot of information in today’s Backpack Express.  Please make sure you read the entire email so you know what is happening at Sowams.

  • PTO Extended Day:  Our PTO is happy to announce the after school program will take place.  This has always been a very popular program with many students participating in the various classes that are offered.  Starting in April, the PTO will offer after school classes on either Tuesdays or Thursdays.  For a list of classes that are available for students to participate in may be found here.  Information about the program may be found here.  The link to sign up for a class will be emailed to families on April 6 at 7:00 pm.  Classes are filled on a first come, first serve basis.  Payment info will also be shared at that time.
  • Yearbook:  It is time to order a yearbook if you would like to purchase one for your child.  The cost of the yearbook is $21.  Information on ordering a yearbook may be found here.  Yearbook orders will only be accepted online.  All orders must be received by April 26, 2022.  This deadline will not be extended.  Watch for information about how to purchase a booster to be placed in the yearbook.
  • PTO Meeting:  The PTO meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 4, 2022, at 7:00 in the evening.  Information about the meeting will be sent out.
  • Sowams Family Poetry Celebration:  It’s not too late to sign up for our Family Poetry Celebration on April 28, 2022, right after school with Mrs. Greene (our school librarian).  The book title and sign up information may be found here.  Weather permitting, this program will be held on the picnic tables in back of the school.
  • Asian and Pacific Islander Community Book Award:  The Barrington Public School Libraries are participating in a new book award:  Asian and Pacific Islander Community Book Award.  The book titles that are currently up for this award may be found here, along with how to vote for your favorite book.  Some of these books will be shared with students in their classrooms and in the library classes.
  • Helping Your Child at Home:  Recently, a survey was sent to parents asking about what you would like to know about Sowams School.  One of the responses that came up often was how to help your child at home.  Our teachers, reading and math specialists, librarian, and speech language pathologist have come up with various grade level resources that are easy to use at home.  You may access this website here.  This is a new site for us so it may be updated over time with additional resources.
  • Community Notices:  There are a few community notices.  The Barrington Education Foundation has one looking for board members.  The Barrington Public Library has two notices:  Autism Awareness Field Day and a meet the author.  Questions about these programs should be directed to the Barrington Public Library.

Have a wonderful day.

Best,

Jim Callahan
