Backpack Express

Good morning,

This week’s Backpack Express is loaded with information for you.  Please read the whole email.

  • Playground Afterschool:  I have received several complaints from parents regarding the playground afterschool.  The complaints range from students hitting other students (with either hands or sticks), students telling others they cannot play in certain areas, and students not following our playground expectations.  Parents are expected to watch their children to ensure they are following our expectations.  Students should not be running into the woods, playing on the rock, visiting neighborhood yards, standing on the shed, and using the equipment incorrectly.
  • Book Fair:  Our spring book fair is coming up the week of May 16, 2022.  Information about our book fair may be found here.  One of the pieces you will find here is how to set up an e-wallet for your child so your child doesn’t need to come to school with money.  Watch for information about a Family Night on May 18, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 in the evening.  Volunteers are needed throughout the week of the book fair. The sign up sheet to volunteer may be found here.  (The book fair only runs smoothly with lots of help.)
  • Tuesday and Thursday Afternoon Bus Runs:  Due to our PTO Extended Day program currently happening for the next six weeks, there are not many students taking the buses home on these days.  This may make the bus run little earlier than normal.
  • May No School Days:  There are three days in May where students don’t have school or are distance learning.  May 3 is a no school day for students in honor of Eid al-Fitr.  May 11 is a professional development day for faculty and staff.  Students will have work to do at home on this day.  May 30 is Memorial Day so there is no school on this day.
  • Third Grade Parents:  There is a parent/guardian orientation at Hampden Meadows School on May 4, 2022, at 6:00 in the evening.  Information about this may be found here.
  • Faculty/Staff Appreciation Week:  Next week is National Faculty/Staff Appreciation Week.  The PTO will be sending out information about how you can help celebrate our amazing faculty and staff members at Sowams School.
  • May Hot Lunch Menu:  The hot lunch menu for the month of May may be found here.
  • Community Notices:  There are several community notices for you this week:  BPL Meet the AuthorBPL Trivia Night, and a Field Hockey Clinic.

I hope you have a wonderful rest of the day.

Best,

Jim Callahan
Principal
