There is a lot of information for you in today’s Backpack Express. Please make sure you read the whole email.
- PTO’s Dinner Out: The PTO’s dinner fundraiser is tonight. This month’s restaurant is Spaghetti Lane in Barrington. When you place your order, mention Sowams and some of the proceeds from tonight will come back to the PTO to support programming at our school.
- Faculty/Staff Appreciation Week: The PTO continues to recognize our faculty and staff this week. The activities for the rest of this week are as follows:
- Tomorrow, Thursday, May 5th, is "Dress Like a Superhero Day." Please wear a superhero t-shirt (no masks, hats, or toys please) in honor of the Sowams faculty and staff, who are superheros!
- Friday, May 6th children are encouraged to bring a flower for teachers and staff as a gesture of appreciation for the ways the Sowams team helps our students grow up! Children may draw or create a flower from paper or clay, give a single cut stem, or bring a small plant.
- PTO Meeting: The next PTO meeting will be Monday, May 9, 2022, at 7:00 in the evening. This meeting will take place at Sowams. Click here for more information.
- Fun Friday: This Friday is our May Fun Friday. We will be learning about and celebrating Korean Children’s Day.
- Grade 3 Family Book Club: Mrs. Greene, our librarian, will be hosting a family book club on June 14, 2022. The book that should be read is How to Win a Slime War. Information about the book club, including how to sign up to participate and how you may be able to receive a copy of the book for free, may be found here.
- Book Fair: Our spring book fair is coming up the week of May 16, 2022. Information about our book fair may be found here. One of the pieces you will find here is how to set up an e-wallet for your child so your child doesn’t need to come to school with money. Watch for information about a Family Night on May 18, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 in the evening. Volunteers are needed throughout the week of the book fair. The sign up sheet to volunteer may be found here. (The book fair only runs smoothly with lots of help.)
- May No School Days: There are three days in May where students don’t have school or are distance learning. May 11 is a professional development day for faculty and staff. Students will have work to do at home on this day. May 30 is Memorial Day so there is no school on this day.
- Hampden Meadows School Tough Tiger: HMS’ biggest fundraiser of the year is coming up on May 22, 2022. It’s the Tough Tiger race. Prior to Covid, this was a fun family day and everyone is looking forward to its return. Information on how to participate may be found here.
- Community Notices: There are two notices for you from the Barrington community. The first is from the Barrington Public Library and the second is about Pickleball for Kids.
