Backpack Express

Good afternoon,

This week’s Backpack Express is ready for you.

  • Book Fair:  Our Book Fair continues through Friday of this week.  There is a Family Night tomorrow (Thursday) from 5:30PM-7:00PM.

  • PTO Calendar:  The PTO has put together a calendar for the month of November.  You may access it here.

  • Basket Raffle:  Thanks to the Room Parents, you can visit this link to see photos and detailed descriptions of the class baskets! As a reminder, tickets and cash/checks should be returned to school by November 16, 2022. The classroom that sells the most tickets by this date will win a class prize to be determined by the teacher! If you need more tickets, please contact the school (kotsirisc@barringtonschools.org) . Basket winners will be pulled on November 21, 2022. Thank you for your support!

  • Candy Collection:  As Halloween just passed, you may have too much candy (Is there such a thing?) in your homes.  We are having a candy collection to benefit Amos House and their effort to put together Thanksgiving baskets.  If you would like to send candy in to the school in baggies, there will be a collection box in the school’s foyer.  More information may be found here.

  • Thanksgiving Needs:  As we enter the month of November, and we are beginning to plan for the holiday season, we are reminded that this may be a very challenging time of year for some families especially with the cost of food and needs on the rise. Please know that families are welcome to reach out to their school social workers who can provide resources and support to help meet their needs.  It is our pleasure to support you confidentially and respectfully.  Our school social worker, Michele Marcello may be reached at marcellom@barringtonschools.org

  • PTO Meeting:  The next meeting of the Sowams PTO will take place virtually on Monday, November 7, 2022, at 7:00PM.  The link for the meeting will be sent out on Monday.

  • No School:  As a reminder, there is no school on November 8, 2022, due to election day.  There is also no school on November 11, 2022, in honor of Veterans' Day.

  • November’s Celebrations:  As we start November, we recognize that is Native American Heritage Month.  The district’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity Committee has put together a presentation which provides information about this and other celebrations occurring this month.

Have a great day.

Best,

Jim Callahan
