Backpack Express

Good afternoon,

This week’s Backpack Express is below for your reading pleasure:

  • Fun Friday, Part 1:  Either yesterday or today your child received an Octoberfest t-shirt.  Our PTO purchased those for everyone at Sowams.  To show school spirit, it would be great if everyone wore their new t-shirts on Friday of this week.

  • Fun Friday, Part 2:  This is a great time of year for our students to show gratitude to our faculty and staff and to each other.  The PTO invites you to have your child draw a picture, make a card, or show some other form a gratitude for someone at Sowams.  Whatever is created may be brought to school on Friday and shared with that person.

  • PTO Silent Auction:  Silent Auction - Starts Monday 11/21!  Sowams' annual silent auction goes live on Monday and runs through 12/9/22.  This year's assortment of items includes:

    • Restaurant gift certificates

    • Tickets to PPAC & a Red Sox game

    • Complimentary passes to Great Wolf Lodge, Water Wizz, Blithewold

    • Spa treatments (Botox, Acupuncture, Nails, etc.)

    • Gift sets

    • ...and so much more!

  • Save the Date:  The PTO will be hosting a skating party at USA Skates on December 8.  More information will be sent out about this.

  • No School:  There is no school next Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday due to professional development and the Thanksgiving holiday.

  • Candy Collection:  Thank you to everyone who donated candy recently to the candy collection we took up for Amos House.  We collected more than 98 pounds of candy (which equates to 130 sandwich bags and 100 snack bags).  This candy will be distributed in the Thanksgiving baskets that Amo House distributes.

  • Parent Conferences:  In December, there will be parent conferences.  Most will take place on December 9.  Be on the lookout for a sign up from your child’s classroom teacher.  There is no school on December 9 for students.

  • Community Notices:  There are a couple community notices this week:  Girl Scouts and URI Poster Contest.

Have a great rest of the day.

Best,

Jim Callahan
